So my husband and I have been discussing how we can live a simpler life and get off of the grid. However, a lot of people don't understand what that means because it means different things to different people.
For me, getting off the grid means the following:
* elimination of credit card debt
* driving my 400 + mile tank car until its on its last legs (yeah Honda Civic!!!)
* supporting environmentally conscious companies
* buying environmentally aware products
* consuming less
* recycling more
* eating at home more
* driving the speed limit to and from work
* supporting/listening to NPR and independent music stations (love WCLZ 98.9)
* getting rid of my cell phone
* moving in 3- 5 years to a rural environment where I can use a widmill to generate
electricity (possibly have solar panels on the roof)
* leaving corporate America eventually and supporting myself with my B.S. in
English/Writing
* volunteering/giving back to my community
* being political on a grass roots level
* taking quicker showers
* unplugging cords when what they're attached to isn't in use
* following independent news opposed to corporate interest news
* gardening to grow some of my own food
